Caballa

Mackerel is a pelagic migratory fish that lives in the coastal and oceanic region of the South Pacific Ocean - from the Galapagos Islands till the southern region of Chile-, and from the coasts of South America till the coastal waters of New Zealand and Tasmania. This area of distribution is known as the "jack mackerel belt" of the South Pacific. It feeds on small fish, among other things, and lives 16 years.

Jack mackerel is the main fish resource that sustains the industrial activity of Chile between the Third and Tenth Region.
